A Message from Susan Edwards
Before founding American VISA Exchange, I spent nearly 20 years working as a Human Resources Director in the hospitality industry, leading recruitment and workforce planning for hotels, resorts, country clubs, and seasonal employers.
Throughout my career, I was responsible for hiring hundreds of employees each year and managing seasonal workforce programs, including H-2B and J-1 participants. Like many employers, I experienced firsthand the annual uncertainty that comes with seasonal staffing. Every year brought new challenges; visa caps, processing delays, changing regulations, consular appointment backlogs, rising costs, and the constant question of whether workers would arrive on time for the busy season.
I wasn't sitting on the sideliens watching these challenges happen. I was living them.
As an HR leader, I understood what was at stake when staffing plans fell apart. Unfilled positions didn't just create inconvenience, they impacted guest service, employee morale, revenue, and a company's ability to operate successfully during peak seasons.
Over the years, I began asking a simple question:
"There has to be a better way, right?"
That question utlimately led me to Puerto Rico.
I discovered a highly qualified workforce of U.S. citizens eager to relocate for seasonal employment opportunities. Because Puerto Rican workers are American citizens, employers can avoid many of the uncertainties, delays, and complexities associated with traditional visa-based staffing programs while still gaining access to dependable seasonal talent.
In 2024, I founded American VISA Exchange to help employers solve the same workforce challenges I spent years facing myself.
Today, we connect hospitality, landscaping, and other seasonal employers with qualified workers form Puerto Rico, providing a trusted alternative to the H-2B program. Our mission is to help businesses stay fully staffed while creating meaningful career opportunities for Puerto Rican workers and their families.
What makes American VISA Exchange different is simple: we've been in your shoes. We understand the pressure of operating short-staffed, the frustration of workforce uncertainty, and the importance of having a staffing partner who truly understands your business.
We're not just filling positions. We're helping employers build a workforce strategy they can count on.
